Playing With The DSL Line

I do not cease to be amazed at the kid’s ability to determine the 2 or 3 forbidden objects within the short distance achievable at a moments dis-attention and to bee-line for those very things.  One minute she’s playing with her blocks.  I check a text and wham! She’s magically teleported herself across the room and into the next and is chomping down on an electrical cord.

The DSL line in our house is a beautiful – and apparently entrancingly attractive to a baby – blue.  It seems to be her favorite.  This song has also become one of her faves cause she knows that she’ll get whisked up and float around like some sort of Flaming Lips video and dad will hippy dance to an imagined Morrissey rendition of the babyditty hit.

I like to think it’s the fabulous musical experience that keeps her going back for more.

Baby Falling Through The Atmosphere

Like a lot of the dittys, this one came about via an imaginary video: in this case a David Bowie video from perhaps the early 80′s.

Naturally, this song requires some sort of controlled free-fall. Note to all: that controlled free fall should NOT be laying on your back with the baby above you if it’s been less than 20 minutes since feeding time.

Can you tell me baby why you’re falling?

Gonna Do Some Exercises (To Get My Baby All Tired)

I don’t feel the need to be ashamed. There’s just times when you really need the baby to be ready for a nap about an hour earlier than usual.

Man, it’s freaking hard to wear them suckers out though.

She’s so tired, she’s so tired
She’s so tired, she’s so tired

The Way the Milk Goes Down

The kid is gonna be screwed up when she realizes that most of the world does not operate as if in a Broadway musical. But for now it’s a fun game.

There’s sometimes when I look at her and I’m certain that she has a little song or a dance in the glimmer of her eye. This is one of her first songs with a dance routine. Maybe I’ll make a video of the routine someday.

Enjoy…

The Way the Milk Goes Down
From my mouth to my tummy
To my poopy little bummy
That’s the way the milk goes dow-own.

From my mouth to my tummy
To my poopy little bummy
That’s the way the milk goes down, uh-hmm.

That’s the way the milk goes dow-own
That’s the way the milk goes dow-own.

From my mouth to my tummy
To my poopy little bummy
That’s the way the milk goes down.

Ain’t Gonna Have No Cryin’

Many of the baby dittys are not so much composed to soothe the baby’s nerves as to soothe my own.

This one came about after a particularly fussy morning. I had a million things I was trying to do. It was one of those days where everything is simply NOT jiving the way that it needs to. So I whisked her up and put on my wife’s wrap thingy (which makes me look like a gay samurai**) and this song just came pouring out while we did the things I had to get done.

**I mean no offense to anyone who is or who knows a gay samurai. I feel like the term is appropriately descriptive and, I believe, honoring to the entire professional demographic.

Ain’t Gonna Have No Cryin’
We ain’t gonna have no cryin’
Ain’t gonna have no cryin’
Ain’t gonna have no cry-y-yin’

All we gonna have is a good time
All we gonna have is a good time
All we gonna have is a go-o-od time

You’re My Baby Girl (So Proud To Be Your Daddy)

Just a simple and sweet little ditty.

There’s a part of the melody structure that very much reminds me of some contemporary country music singer. I actually don’t listen to contemporary country music, so if you happen to know who it is that I might be thinking of, I’d love to hear it.

You’re My Baby Girl (So Proud To Be Your Daddy)
You’re my baby girl, you’re my baby girl
Make Daddy so proud to be
Your daddy
